Hi, and welcome to my website.

My name is Max Van Wyk de Vries, I am an Assistant Professor in Natural Hazards at the University of Cambridge. I completed my PhD from the University of Minnesota, and was previously a Research Associate at the University of Liverpool monitoring tidewater glacier change in Greenland and a Senior Research Associate in multihazard risk modelling at the University of Oxford.

I work on landslides, remote sensing, volcanoes, lake sediment, glaciers- particularly through field work, analysis of satellite image datasets and simple numerical models.

I write open source code, and share easy to use numerical models. See more details on my Software page here.

I love talking about science, to other scientists and to everyone else! See more about my outreach work here.

Finally, find more details about me, my publications and more in the links below.
